| Quartz tube infrared heaters are
most often applied for fast response applications. The panel
heater has a lot of mass and therefore requires much more time
to get up to the operating temperature. Quartz tubes have virtually
no mass and come up to temperature in short order. The heating
element design dictates the actual time required for the heater
to come up to temperature. Kinetics offers a dual twisted heating
element for ultra-fast warm-up applications and a single heating
element for applications where speed is not as much of an issue
and longer heater life is more desirable.
The quartz tubes can be provided with many different end
terminations to meet the needs of the equipment manufacturer.
The images display several of the available options. Kinetics
will also design custom end terminations that match the equipment
requirements. The quartz tube infrared heaters can be configured
to meet commercially available voltages. The tube watt densities
can be designed up to 50 watts/lineal inch (wli) for typical
applications. In some instances the tube watt density is increased
higher than 50 wli to allow for faster response time.
Tube length can be as long as 100", but shorter tube
lengths are preferred. Longer tube lengths have a greater
chance for breakage and a shorter life expectancy. Generally
speaking, a tube length under 48" is preferred. The tubing
can be either clear or satin. Clear tubes have a much higher
transmittance of infrared energy as compared with satin tubes.
Therefore, clear tubes are preferred for higher watt density
applications. The main use of satin tubes is for lower watt
density applications that desire a hidden heating element
for aesthetic reasons. Quartz tubes are available in many
diameters ranging from 3/8" - 1"
